Friction Bolts
Specifications
Friction Bolt (commonly known as Split Sets)
Friction Bolts (Split Sets) are roll-formed into a "C" shape bolt with slot down one side. They are manufactured using High Tensile Steel band and one end of the bolt is tapered for easily inserting the bolt into the drilled borehole.
The other end of the bolt has a welded ring to hold the bearing plate.

Functions
The Friction Bolt is a frictional ground support system. When the friction bolt is inserted into the pre-drilled hole which is of a slightly smaller diameter, the slot on the Friction Bolt partially closes and the bolt diameter is compressed/reduced, which creates radical forces on the rock surface along the entire length of the Friction Bolt and firmly holds the in-situ rock mass in place.

Construction
Friction Bolt Use
-
The nature and competency of ground must be assessed.
-
Choose the proper diameter drill bit and drill a hole according to the bolt diameter, bolt length, and drill plan.
-
Drill the borehole at least 150mm longer than length of the friction bolt.
-
Place a plate onto the friction bolt (dome against the ring, tapered end at front).
-
Friction Bolts must be installed as perpendicular to the rock surface as possible.
-
Place the driver dolly into the Friction Bolt and drive the Friction Bolt into the borehole until the plate is firmly located against the rock surface.
-
Do not place impact on the Friction Bolt when plate has located against the rock surface in order to avoid damage of the Friction Bolt end.
-
Once installed "Pull Tests" shall be performed to determine the initial anchorage capability of the Friction Bolt.

Sites where ground support is required
The E-Bolt is made of smooth round bar with a paddle configuration.

Functions:
It is an effective rock reinforcement system for underground roof support. If there is rock mass deformation, the paddle part will be worked as anchor points to bear the load and smooth section will absorb energy to prevent rock fall.

Features & Advantages:
-
After fully grouted in the bore hole, the paddle part of the bolt will work as anchor points. If there is rock mass deformation, the paddle section will bear the load, and the smooth section can move axially or radially without constraints and absorb energy to prevent rockfall.
-
The Kiruna wedge can be used for immediate support function so that the wire mesh can be installed together with the bolt.
-
This E-Bolt is particularly suitable for Mines with large deformations in the rock mass, e.g. Seismically
active Mines, Rock Burst or "Squeeze Rock areas.
